Style & Consistency Guide

Table of Contents

General Issues

EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy should always appear as such in headings or in first reference to EMDR Therapy on a page. After the first mention, it’s permissible to stylize as EMDR.

EMDR Therapy Training (technically, this is what it is called and how we formally list it; we may still colloquially call it basic training or foundational training yet ICM tries to avoid this on our site)

Training Consultation or Basic/Foundational Training Consultation; please avoid using a phrase many of us have used before, post basic training consultation. Either indicate that the consultation is Training Consultation, or consultation for those who have completed a full (basic) training, which generally indicates that a trainee is pursuing EMDRIA certification or simply obtaining more consultation after their training is complete. The word “post” has been a source of confusion.

For Training, please use Roman Numerals consistently: Part I, Part II

Consultant-in-Training (CIT) not Consultant Trainees

Advanced Topics (not Special Topics) – for EMDRIA-approved Advanced Topics trainings

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy should always appear as such in headings or in first reference to Expressive Arts Therapy on a page. Appropriate variations like Certificate of Expressive Arts or Expressive Arts Supervisors do not need to include Therapy.

Continuing Education (CE)

CE must always be used as an abbreviation; please do not use the older abbreviation “CEU” that many of us are used to.

Acceptable references per NBCC (since they are our toughest approval agency, let’s keep these consistent): 1 CE hour, 4.25 CE credit hours

Do not use CE credits alone–yes, they dinged us on this.

Common Confusions with Stylizing
  • In-Person
  • In-House
  • Real-Time
  • Distance-Based
  • Sign-In
  • ADA-compliant
  • Homestudy (one word)
  • ICM Home Office (capitalize)
  • Dr. Jamie Marich (first reference in a paragraph or section); subsequently on that paragraph or page, Dr. Jamie
  • Institute for Creative Mindfulness (first reference in a paragraph or section); ICM is permissible after that
  • $10.00 (all money should have the cents figures)
  • Trainee is generally preferred to student, although it is permissible to use student. In the code of conduct, we use the more precise role of customer and you may also use this term depending on the context.
  • Dancing Mindfulness (not necessary to italicize for any reason on websites; in written documents, you will sometimes see this stylized with italics to refer to the book or to the formal practice or training itself, compared to dancing mindfulness in lower case, indicating the general, person practice)
Ordinals and Related Issues
  • Please use this formatting for numbering: 1., 2., 3., 4., 5.
  • Please use this format for lettering: (a), (b)
  • Please use the standard bullet point wherever possible
Headings

Headings on all webpage headings ought to be capitalized with the exceptions of a, an, the, with, by, or for (depending on context) (unless those three words are starting a heading); examples:

  • Course Curriculum
  • Diversity and Inclusion Committee
  • About the Instructor
  • Style and Consistency Guide

Both “and” and “&” are acceptable, simply be mindful of context

Hyperlinks

Please do not cut and paste a full URL link unless it is contextually appropriate. Please use hyperlinking to highlight a relevant area and then direct the reader there. For example:

Please visit our Dissociation and Addiction Resources Page

NOT

Please visit our Dissociation and Addiction Resources Page: https://www.instituteforcreativemindfulness.com/dissociation-addiction-resources/

Time zones

Please use the following time zone abbreviations when listing your programs:

ET for Eastern Time

CT for Central Time

PT for Pacific Time

Please do not use EST, CST or PST or EDT, CDT or PDT. For Tockify listings, this rule is ignored because Tockify automatically shows time zones in a format that is determined by the software.

Format for Biographical Listings on the ICM Website

The Institute for Creative Mindfulness needs to have a clear and compliant biography from you on the website. When you first join the ICM team, we will work with you to obtain the following pieces of information to get your initial biography formatted correctly.

  1. Headshot
  2. Pronouns*
  3. Bio (200 words or less version)
  4. Consultation rates and specialties
  5. Website URL and the best email address for you
  6. Phone number
  7. City/State of where you practice
  8. Current CV

If you are not comfortable having any of this information displayed on the website, please let us know what information you would like to be listed publicly on your ICM directory listing.

*The baseline expectation is that ICM team members use their pronouns on their biographical listing in keeping with our Social Justice Mission. If you do not use any specific pronouns, you may put your first name in the pronouns spot. Please feel free to reach out to Alicia at alicia@instituteforcreativemindfulness.com with questions.

After we initially get you listed, then we will provide you with a WordPress login so that you can make changes yourself, although we will be monitoring these periodically to ensure compliance and consistency. For easy reference, here is the link to set up your account:

https://www.instituteforcreativemindfulness.com/member-registration/

It is important that you provide the one email that is the best way to contact you for your listing, and that you use that same email for your WordPress login.

When you make changes, your biography and other information will go down until an ICM home office member approves it. Although the team reviews updates on a regular basis, please email Alicia (alicia@instituteforcreativemindfulness.com) when you have changed something.

Here’s an example of a biography to guide your way:

Please use this formatting for listing your rates, any variations to your rates, and your consultant specialties. In the current system, you will type in your consultation specialties underneath your rates. In the new directory, these will be separate fields with tagging being implemented in the consultation section.

Rates:

$100.00/hour for individual consulting ($75.00 for agency clinicians and EMDR therapy trainees)

$100.00/two-hour group consultation ($75.00 for agency clinicians and EMDR therapy trainees)

Consultant specialties: Children (all ages); pre-verbal trauma; chronic/complex trauma and dissociation in adults and children

Step-By-Step For Submitting Tockify Consultation Groups:
  1. You are required to submit an entry for each consultation group that you have scheduled on Tockify HERE.
  2. Please label the button Register Here. You can add a link to register directly to your site or a registration page. If you do not have a website or a registration link, you may include instructions for how to register in the Event Description so it is vital that you include your email or phone number. If you do not have website registration capacity, your entry will not have a button.
  3. Please be sure that the box labeled Skip Details Page Completely in the Add or Edit a Promotion Button section is checked.
  4. Please include a headshot for the Featured Image.
  5. Please remember to add tags to your event (online or in-person; Approved Consultant or Consultant-in-Training.
  6. Please make sure that your name appears in the Event Title (for example; EMDR Consultation Group with Irene Rodriguez). This detail is important so that your potential consultees can easily find your groups. In an attempt to standardize the calendar we would prefer that your credentials are not listed in the Event Title, however, you may list your credentials under Event Description.
  7. In an attempt to standardize the calendar, please do not include a location for an in-person event or a zoom link for an online event. That information is hopefully available when they click the link to register and/or receive a confirmation email from you.
  8. You may inform the ICM Home Office when a Consultation Group reaches capacity or if any changes need to be made after the submission is approved.

Here is an example of a Consultation Group Submission following the protocol:

The ICM Home Office monitors and approves submitted Consultation Groups. The Home Office reserves the right to make minor changes to the submissions in accordance with ICM’s Style & Consistency Guide to ensure proper format. The ICM Home Office also reserves the right to reject the event if the proper format is not followed. The ICM team member is then responsible for resubmitting the Consultation Group.

Step-By-Step for Submitting Tockify Events:
  1. If you are a team member who is authorized to run their own trainings, please submit each event for the calendar through Tockify HERE.
  2. Please follow this uniform style for Event Titles on Tockify:
    • EMDR Therapy Training: Part I (Online)
    • EMDR Therapy Training: Part I & II (Online)
    • EMDR Therapy Training Intensive: Part I & Part II (In-Person)
    • EMDR Therapy Training: Part I & Part II for BIPOC Clinicians (WAITLIST ONLY) (Online)
    • EMDR Therapy Training: Part I & Part II for Perinatal Mental Health Specialists (Online)
    • Training Terapia EMDR: Part I & Part II en ESPANOL (Online)
+ The faculty member’s name should NOT appear in the title; in the small details is fine
      * Indicates program is offered by a faculty member licensed by The Institute For Creative Mindfulness. You will be redirected to their website for more information and registration.
  3. In an attempt to standardize the calendar, ALL buttons should read Register Here and be linked to registration for the training.
  4. Please be sure that the box labeled Skip Details Page Completely in the Add or Edit a Promotion Button section is checked.
  5. Please remember to add ALL Tags that are relevant to your event.
  6. Include a headshot of yourself for the Featured Image. If you do not have a headshot or you are working with another trainer and do not have a photo together you may use the ICM logo or a logo of your practice.
  7. Please have the correct dates and times, including time zone listed for your training. If your training is an online EMDR Therapy Training, please use the Part I dates and time for the section titled Event Date and Time. Then, add the dates for both the Part I and Part II in the Event Description after the approvals.
  8. The Event Location should always read Street Address as opposed to Online Event. Although many events are online, we would not like the information to appear here as it keeps the look on the front end clean and the Register Here button should take the trainees to the information that they desire. If your event is in-person, please add the street address for the venue.
  9. Please follow this standardized format in the Event Description section of the event submission:

Presented by Jamie Marich, Ph.D. LPCC-S, REAT, RYT-500, *42 CE Credits: APA, NBCC, ASWB, OCSWMFT, *Part I: March 3-5, 2021 and Part II: May 12-14, 2021

If you are not authorized to use all of our credit approvals, please use the following format:

Presented by Amber Stiles-Bodnar, M.S.Ed., LPCC-S, LCDC-III, *42 CE Credits: APA, OCSWMFT; NBCC and ASWB credits not offered, *Part I: March 3-5, 2021 and Part II: May 12-14, 2021

For advanced topics trainings, please also indicate EMDRIA in the list:

Presented by: Suzi Rutti, LISW-S and Tammy Moore, LISW-S, *12 CE Credits: EMDRIA, APA, NBCC, ASWB, OCSWMFT

Here is an example of an Event submission that follows the protocol:

The ICM Home Office monitors and approves submitted events. The Home Office reserves the right to make minor changes to the submissions in accordance with ICM’s Style & Consistency Guide to ensure proper format. The ICM Home Office also reserves the right to reject the event if the proper format is not followed. The ICM team member is then responsible for resubmitting the event.

  • Make sure to categorize your bundle or course after you publish it
  • If you make any changes to course titles or dates, make sure you double check for any changes to the URL
  • Make sure to hide/make private your course and bundle (if applicable) on the very day you close registration or begin teaching, otherwise, trainees may register after-the-fact. Please do not unpublish the course to ensure that trainees have clear access.
  • When copying a course from another course, make sure that you have: (a) changed all of the dates, (b) update your Zoom links

ICM Logo & General Logo Issues

The Institute for Creative Mindfulness changed our logo slightly at the end of 2020 when the new website format premiered. If you are implementing the ICM logo into any of your materials, please make sure that you are using the update. Several examples and formats of the logos appear below.

Although many of you have your own beautiful logos for your personal business, please be advised that using both logos in promotions may be problematic and construed as co-sponsorship on certificates and in promotions, especially if you are eligible to use ICM’s NBCC and ASWB approval. Please consult Alicia with any questions: alicia@instituteforcreativemindfulness.com
