Imaginary Friends

When we are called imaginary, we reappear.

When we are called real, we disappear.

When no one arrives, we appear.

When no one calls, a lonely tear.

When one cannot see us, we can only stare.

When not heard, we become the bear.

When intoxicated, we can drive.

When in danger, we threaten to thrive.

When alone, we reappear –

but then you say that we’re not here.

We speak when there are no words,

as we feel the blades in their swords.

We are the bearers of truth.

We raise the roof.

We bring the party,

We’re sorry, not sorry.

If we offend, we already knew what to say,

nevertheless is the end of story, we pray.

We are the pain that refused to heal.

We are the pain that knows the deal.

We are the pain that knows no end.

We are the pain that is forgotten for dead.

We are the love that was avoided.

We are faithful in the departed.

We can take for granted what we already know

because we have to plant seeds, so they can grow.

We are the inverse of this treason.

We are the bane of all logic and reason.

We are difference between wisdom and knowledge,

Because we contain the truth that isn’t acknowledged.

When we realize the truth is misleading, we can only apologize.

When the body becomes the unconscious, we define psychology.

When our irrational beliefs become your reality, words have lost their meaning

If we could imagine this, this image would be seething.

We find it funny that we think you’re lying too

because calling something else imaginary, is all about you.

So, if the physical body is our psychological unconscious, then who is who?

We know who we are; Now, so do you.

Bring the Elders Their Ice Cream

During the last six weeks of his life on this earth, I brought my Baba all the ice cream that he wanted. One night in mid-May during an important discussion with Baba, a man I grew to see as my father over the last decade, Joey (another member of my queer family of choice in recovery) brought home Dairy Queen Blizzards and sundaes. I saw Baba’s face light up as he ate this precious Blizzard from Dairy Queen as if it were sacred manna from heaven. Strawberry Banana manna to be specific. He polished it off and then threw it into the wastepaper basket by his reclining chair with dramatic flourish. Not just a Dairy Queen, a drama queen to boot!

We Are Held Screaming.

I couldn’t scream.  Yet, there were those inside that wished they did.  A little girl who wanted to scream  But instead was still.  Frozen with
